Bokkies, zebras and stars in the Cedarberg

About 300 kms from the lush green of the Cape peninsula are the Cedarberg mountains, a protected wilderness area with reddish sandstone rock formations, a massive variety of fynbos, and San cave paintings going back 70,000 years or more.

Here we spent a few days at the little oasis of luxury in the wild that is Bushmanskloof.

There were rock pools to take the edge off the heat

colourful birds who joined us for lunch

Flocks of bright yellow Cape weavers in the trees and a weaver close up on our table.

and spa time with these views

In the late afternoon we had a leisurely game drive ...

Cape Zebra

Springbok

 Eland

Blesbok

and had drinks in the veld from the back of the jeep ...

while watching the sun set over the mountains and the stars appear.

This place is incredible for stargazing (no pollution, little or no clouds, huge open skies) - the perfect location for sighting the constellations of the southern hemisphere.
